A closer look at the story
Henry Hill is a half-Irish, half-Sicilian kid from Brooklyn. Taken under the wing of the neighbourhood mobsters at an early age, he gradually works his way up inside a Mafia family, mentored by Jimmy Conway and alongside Tommy DeVito. This life of money, power and respect has its dark side too, and every step up brings fresh danger. Drawn from a real life story and co-written by Nicholas Pileggi with director Martin Scorsese, the 145-minute 1990 film stars Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Lorraine Bracco in a crime classic.
