Léon: The Professional — a solitary hit man and an unexpected companion
Original title: Léon
A closer look at the story
Léon lives a quiet, orderly life in New York and is exceptionally good at his job as a hired killer. One day the family of Mathilda, the 12-year-old girl next door, is murdered by a corrupt drug-enforcement agent and his men. Having escaped by chance, Mathilda knocks on Léon's door, and the loner reluctantly takes her in. Before long she has made up her mind to get revenge and to learn his trade. Written and directed by Luc Besson, the 1994 film stars Jean Reno, Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman in a violent crime thriller built around a strange and touching bond between two isolated people.
