A closer look at the story
Drawn from real events, the film follows the astonishing exploits of Frank Abagnale Jr., a master of disguise. Before he has even reached adulthood, Frank passes himself off as an airline pilot, a doctor and a lawyer, and swindles millions of dollars with forged cheques. Carl Hanratty, the FBI agent who makes catching him a personal mission, always seems to be a few steps behind, while Frank, far from simply running, plainly enjoys the chase. Steven Spielberg directs Jeff Nathanson's script; the 141-minute 2002 film features Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank, Tom Hanks as Hanratty and Christopher Walken as Frank's father in a brisk crime drama.
