The Big Lebowski
The Big Lebowski: The wrong man and the wrong rug
A closer look at the story
Jeffrey Lebowski, better known as "The Dude", is a laid-back Los Angeles slacker who asks nothing more of life than bowling and White Russians. One day he is mistaken for his namesake, a millionaire Jeffrey Lebowski who uses a wheelchair; thugs chasing the millionaire's wife's debts rough him up and ruin the rug he loves. Seeking compensation for his rug, the Dude finds himself drawn into an ever stranger chain of events involving nihilists, ferrets and very large sums of money. The Coen brothers' 117-minute 1998 film, which they wrote and directed together, stars Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore and Steve Buscemi in a cult crime comedy.
