A closer look at the story
The Godfather Part II moves between two eras. In one, a young Vito Corleone leaves Sicily for New York and, on the hard streets of the 1910s, gradually earns respect and influence. In the other, Michael Corleone, now head of the family in the 1950s, tries to extend its business to Las Vegas, Hollywood and Cuba while dealing with threats from outside, cracks within his own family and a Senate investigation. Again written by Puzo and Coppola and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the 202-minute 1974 film stars Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall and Diane Keaton in a sequel that deepens the Corleone saga.
