The Sheep Detectives

A closer look at the story

Shepherd George Hardy has an odd but endearing nightly habit: reading detective novels aloud to the sheep he adores. George is sure they cannot understand a single word. The sheep, however, have learned all about murders, clues and suspects from the stories they hear each night. One day, a mysterious incident turns peaceful life on the farm upside down. Realising there is nobody else who can uncover the truth, the sheep decide to become detectives themselves. Following the clues and questioning the human suspects one by one, the flock sets out to show that sheep, too, can crack a case brilliantly. Directed by Kyle Balda and adapted by Craig Mazin from Leonie Swann's novel, this 109-minute 2026 family comedy stars Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Galitzine and Molly Gordon, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus voicing one of the sheep.
