Up
Up: A house carried by balloons and an unexpected travelling companion
A closer look at the story
Since he was young, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen has dreamed of travelling to faraway places and living a great adventure, but life kept pushing that dream further away. At last he makes up his mind: he ties thousands of colourful balloons to his house and lifts off towards the wilds of South America. Not long into the journey, however, he discovers a passenger he never counted on, standing on the porch: Russell, an eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer who is relentlessly chatty and cheerful. Pete Docter directed and co-wrote this 2009 Pixar film with Bob Peterson; Ed Asner voices Carl and Jordan Nagai plays Russell, with Christopher Plummer also in the cast, in a funny, moving adventure about age, loss and new beginnings.
