A closer look at the story

Remy is a young rat with a real gift and passion for cooking, and he dreams of becoming a celebrated French chef. His family, though, expects him to live like any ordinary rat. When fate brings him to one of the finest restaurants in Paris, Remy strikes up an unexpected partnership with Linguini, a young kitchen worker there. As Remy's talent reaches the plate through Linguini's hands, the two try to win back the restaurant's former reputation, but nobody can be allowed to find out that a rat is running the kitchen. Brad Bird wrote and directed this 111-minute 2007 animation, which, voiced by Patton Oswalt, Lou Romano, Ian Holm and Brian Dennehy, makes for a delicious comedy.
