Beverly Hills Cop

A closer look at the story

Axel Foley is a young cop working the streets of Detroit, as quick with his mouth as he is with his wits. He can hardly be described as a stickler for rules and regulations and always prefers to do the job his own way. When his best friend is killed, Axel has only one thing on his mind: catching the murderer. The trail takes him to sunny, glitzy Beverly Hills. In a city of luxury mansions and flawless order, Axel uses everything the streets have taught him to give the local police the slip again and again, and pursues the case in a way only he could. Directed by Martin Brest and written by Daniel Petrie Jr., the 105-minute 1984 film stars Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton and Ronny Cox in an action comedy.
