A closer look at the story
Thanks to the rigorous training his police officer father gave him throughout his childhood, Shawn Spencer has developed remarkable powers of observation, an excellent memory and a sharp analytical mind. That training also had a side effect: a resentment towards his father that never quite went away. Years later, Shawn regularly gives the police tips by piecing together details he spots in crime reports on television. His information turns out to be so accurate, however, that the police begin to suspect he actually committed a crime he solved. To save himself, Shawn can think of only one way out: claiming to be psychic. Forced to keep up the lie, he starts cracking cases by passing off his extraordinary skills as "supernatural powers", dragging his best friend, his father and the police along on this crazy ride. Created by Steve Franks, Psych ran on USA Network for eight seasons and 120 episodes starting in 2006; the comedic crime series stars James Roday Rodriguez and Dulé Hill.
