The Rookie

A closer look at the story

Starting over is never easy, least of all for someone like John Nolan, a small-town man in his forties. After an event that turns his life upside down, John decides to chase a dream he has long carried with him: becoming a police officer. He leaves his town behind, heads to Los Angeles and joins the LAPD. Being the force's oldest rookie, however, brings a host of challenges. Some of his superiors do not take him seriously and see his decision as nothing more than a midlife crisis on two legs. John, for his part, works as hard as he can to prove himself among his younger colleagues and to cope with the realities of the streets. Created by Alexi Hawley and running on ABC since 2018, this police dramedy stars Nathan Fillion in the lead, alongside Melissa O'Neil and Eric Winter.
