The Amateur
The Amateur: A CIA decoder bent on revenge
A closer look at the story
Charlie Heller is a brilliant but introverted code-breaking specialist who works in a basement office at CIA headquarters in Langley, far from view. Then one day his wife, Sarah, is killed in a terrorist attack in London, and Charlie's whole world collapses. When his superiors refuse to act against those responsible, Charlie decides to deliver justice himself. He sets off on a dangerous journey after his wife's killers. On this journey his strongest weapon will be his intellect, both to escape those who come after him and to take his revenge. Directed by James Hawes and adapted from Robert Littell's novel, this 123-minute 2025 thriller stars Rami Malek as Charlie.
