The Lion King
The Lion King (2019): The return of an exiled heir
A closer look at the story
The young lion Simba idolises his father, King Mufasa, and eagerly embraces the royal destiny that will one day see him take his place. Not everyone in the kingdom welcomes the new cub, though. Scar, Mufasa's brother, who was once heir himself, is quietly plotting. The struggle for Pride Rock is torn apart by betrayal and tragedy, and Simba ends up in exile. Learning what it means to grow up with the help of two curious new friends, Simba must one day win back what belongs to him. Jon Favreau directs Jeff Nathanson's screenplay in this 118-minute 2019 version, which, voiced by Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor and James Earl Jones, retells a classic with lifelike imagery.
