A closer look at the story
Seth Brundle, a gifted and somewhat eccentric scientist, is working on a machine that can transport matter from one place to another. Journalist Veronica Quaife comes to write about the young genius and is there when Brundle manages to teleport a living creature for the very first time. As a romance grows between them, Brundle decides to try his great invention on himself. What nobody notices, however, is that an ordinary housefly has slipped into the machine along with him. After the experiment, unsettling changes begin to appear in Brundle's body and mind, and the transformation becomes a desperate race against time for the two lovers. A remake by David Cronenberg of the 1958 film, the 96-minute 1986 production stars Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis and John Getz in a science-fiction horror.
