A closer look at the story

On its way home to Earth, the commercial spaceship Nostromo wakes its crew from deep sleep after picking up a signal from a nearby planet. The rules on board require them to investigate. A small team made up of Dallas, Lambert and Kane finds a derelict structure on the surface containing strange egg-like organisms, and the discovery quickly turns dangerous for Kane. Back on board, Ripley points to the quarantine regulations and hesitates to let her crewmates in. Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by Dan O'Bannon, the 1979 film stars Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt and John Hurt in a classic that brings science fiction and horror together in a confined space.
