A closer look at the story
The Office follows the everyday working lives of the staff at Dunder Mifflin, a fictional paper company, in its branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Branch manager Michael Scott bends company rules in the name of keeping his people happy, yet he is just as known for being crass and thoughtless. Under his leadership works a team of distinctive personalities, including Jim, a bored but talented salesman, Dwight, his relentless rival, Pam, the friendly receptionist, and Ryan, a reluctant temp. Created by Greg Daniels and broadcast on NBC from 2005 over nine seasons and 186 episodes, the series stars Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer and finds both cringe and warmth in office life.
