Star Wars: From a desert planet to the fate of a galaxy
A closer look at the story
The Empire that holds the galaxy in its grip has captured Princess Leia, one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance. On the desert planet of Tatooine, young Luke Skywalker is living an uneventful life until his path crosses that of two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, and he is pulled into the struggle. Meeting the reclusive Obi-Wan Kenobi opens his eyes to the world of the Jedi. With the bold pilot Han Solo along for the ride, the small group sets out on a daring rescue mission against an Empire in which Darth Vader looms large. Written and directed by George Lucas, the 1977 film stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Alec Guinness and opens a space saga.
