A closer look at the story

In the twenty-second century, Jake Sully, a former Marine who has lost the use of his legs, is sent to Pandora, a distant moon, for an unusual assignment. The programme studying the Na'vi people who live there, and the riches of their land, lets humans remotely control engineered bodies modelled on the Na'vi. Able to walk again in this new form, Jake grows close to Neytiri, one of the Na'vi, and finds himself increasingly split between his orders and the urge to defend this alien civilisation. James Cameron both wrote and directed this 162-minute 2009 film, with Sam Worthington as Jake and Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, in a lavish science-fiction epic.
