The Empire Strikes Back
The Empire Strikes Back: The rebels' hardest test
A closer look at the story
With the Death Star destroyed, the Empire is hunting the rebels across the galaxy, and when their hidden base on the ice planet Hoth is discovered, the Rebellion is forced to scatter. Luke Skywalker seeks out Yoda, an ageing Jedi master living on the swamp world of Dagobah, to continue his training. Meanwhile Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca and the droids try to stay ahead of Darth Vader and take refuge in Cloud City on Bespin, where it is far from clear whether they are safe. Directed by Irvin Kershner from a screenplay by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, the 1980 sequel adds Billy Dee Williams as Lando to a returning cast led by Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, and tells a darker, tenser chapter of the saga.
