Coraline

A closer look at the story

After moving with her family into a rambling old house, Coraline is bored in her new town and feels overlooked by her parents. One day she finds a hidden door inside the house, and behind it a version of her own life that seems almost perfect. There, the "Other Mother" is attentive and loving and everything is just as Coraline would wish; the only oddity is that everyone has buttons for eyes. Staying in this world, however, comes at a frightening price, and Coraline has to work out what lies beneath its charms. Written and directed by Henry Selick, the 100-minute 2009 animation features the voices of Dakota Fanning and Teri Hatcher in an adventure that mixes fairy tale with fear.
