KINONOOK / EN

A closer look at the story

Soul follows Joe Gardner, a middle-school music teacher in New York whose great love is jazz. After a triumphant audition at one of the city's finest jazz clubs, he finally seems to have landed the opportunity of a lifetime. Then a small misstep leads to a mishap that leaves his soul cut off from his body. Joe finds himself in a fantastical realm where new souls acquire their personalities, quirks and passions before they are sent down to Earth with newborn children. His only goal is to return to the life he is about to miss, and to do that he needs help from the souls being prepared there. One of them is 22, a precocious soul who has lingered here for ages and has never been able to see what is so appealing about being human. Pete Docter directed this 101-minute animated film from 2020, writing it with Mike Jones and Kemp Powers. Jamie Foxx voices Joe and Tina Fey voices 22, with Graham Norton, Rachel House and Alice Braga in the voice cast.
