A closer look at the story

In Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, the galaxy is close to civil war. Many star systems, led by the former Jedi Count Dooku, are threatening to break away from the Galactic Republic. Amid this unrest Padmé Amidala, once queen of Naboo and now a senator, narrowly survives an attempt on her life. The young Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker is given the job of guarding her, and in doing so he comes to recognise his love for her while also discovering a darkness growing inside him. Meanwhile Obi-Wan Kenobi follows the trail of the attack and runs into a mysterious conspiracy. As the inquiry deepens, Anakin, Padmé and Obi-Wan are drawn deep into the Separatist cause, just as the Clone Wars break out. George Lucas directed this 142-minute science-fiction adventure from 2002 working from a script he shared with Jonathan Hales. Hayden Christensen plays Anakin, Ewan McGregor plays Obi-Wan and Natalie Portman plays Padmé, with Christopher Lee as Count Dooku and Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu.
