A closer look at the story
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald continues the story begun in the first film. Gellert Grindelwald breaks out of captivity and sets about rallying supporters to his cause: placing wizards above every being without magic. The one person who can stand in his way is Albus Dumbledore, the wizard Grindelwald once regarded as his dearest friend. Dumbledore, however, cannot do it alone. He turns to his former pupil Newt Scamander, who has already foiled Grindelwald once. Newt agrees to help without realising how great the dangers ahead will be, and the mission brings him back together with his American friends Tina, Queenie and Jacob. As the wizarding world grows ever more divided and sides are chosen, love and loyalty are put to the test even between the closest friends and members of the same family. David Yates directed this 134-minute fantasy adventure from 2018 from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. Eddie Redmayne plays Newt and Johnny Depp plays Grindelwald, with Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler and Alison Sudol also starring.
