One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill: Two half-brothers with only a surname in common

A closer look at the story

Lucas and Nathan, who live in the small town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, have the same father, but apart from their surname they have nothing in common. Lucas is a moody kid from a working-class background and an exceptionally gifted street basketball player, yet the only people who recognise his talent are the friends he plays with on the court by the river. Nathan, on the other hand, is wealthy and popular; as the star of the high school team, he is treated like the town's hero. The father of both boys is Dan Scott, who once played basketball in college. Dan's decision years ago to walk out on Lucas and his mother, Karen, casts a long shadow over the life he has built with Deb, his wife, and Nathan, the son they share. Rivalry on the basketball court, family secrets and the turbulent relationships of youth become intertwined with everyday life in the town. Created by Mark Schwahn and starting on The WB before continuing on The CW for nine seasons and 186 episodes, this drama stars James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Sophia Bush and Paul Johansson.
