Ready Player One
Ready Player One: A treasure hunt in virtual reality
A closer look at the story
Orphaned young, Wade Watts escapes the hardships of the real world by spending most of his time in OASIS, the virtual universe where everyone seeks refuge. When OASIS's billionaire creator dies, he leaves an extraordinary bequest: whoever finds the key he has hidden inside the game will inherit both his fortune and control of OASIS. Playing under the name Parzival, Wade joins this grand treasure hunt. The race soon stops being a game, though, as a powerful corporation prepared to try anything to seize the prize sets itself against Wade and his friends. Steven Spielberg directs a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline, based on Cline's own book; the 140-minute 2018 film stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and Lena Waithe in a colourful science-fiction adventure.
