A closer look at the story

Psychologist Dr. Tess Coleman is a busy woman who looks after her two children on her own while getting ready to marry her fiancé, Ryan. Her teenage daughter Anna, meanwhile, is having trouble with her English teacher, grumbles that she cannot give enough time to the rock band she plays in and holds her mother responsible for everything that goes wrong in her life. Mother and daughter argue about everything, from the clothes Anna wears and the boy she likes to her plans for the future; Anna, for her part, cannot stand her mother's fiancé. Before the wedding, during dinner at a Chinese restaurant, the magical fortune cookies they open set something unexpected in motion. When they wake up the next morning, Tess and Anna find themselves in each other's bodies and for the first time get to see how the other feels, thinks and lives. Directed by Mark Waters, the 97-minute 2003 film stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in a family comedy.
