Coronation Street

A closer look at the story

Coronation Street is a long-established British soap opera about the lives of ordinary, working-class people who live on the street of the same name. The series follows the residents at home, at work and in the local pub where they all meet, the Rovers Return Inn. Everyday chats between neighbours, family relationships, friendships and disagreements form the backbone of the show. Every house, every family and every character has a story of their own, and these stories sometimes become entangled, making life on the street all the more colourful. The Rovers Return Inn is more than just a pub: it is the hub where characters gather, news spreads and many important moments take place. Characters such as Ken Barlow, Rita, Sally, Gail and Steve McDonald are among the show's best-known faces. Created by Tony Warren and broadcast on ITV1 since 1960, the series has featured actors including William Roache, Barbara Knox, Sally Dynevor, Helen Worth and Simon Gregson.
