Casualty

A closer look at the story

Casualty is a long-established British medical drama set in the emergency department of Holby City Hospital. The series tells the stories of the people working there and the patients brought in for urgent care. The emergency department is one of the places where life's most dramatic moments unfold; every shift is packed with unexpected cases and hard decisions. The show looks not only at the treatment of patients but also at the highs and lows in the working and private lives of the healthcare workers. The successes, disappointments, relationships and conflicts the staff experience both on the job and away from it are a key part of every episode. Memorable characters include Charlie Fairhead, Dylan Keogh, Noel Garcia, Josh Griffiths and Tess Bateman. Created by Jeremy Brock and Paul Unwin and on BBC One since 6 September 1986, the series features actors including Derek Thompson, William Beck, Tony Marshall and Suzanne Packer.
