ER: Inside a Chicago emergency room

KINONOOK / EN

A closer look at the story

ER takes viewers into the overstretched emergency room of a large teaching hospital in Chicago. The pace there is relentless: ambulances arrive one after another, trolleys fill the corridors and every minute someone's life is at stake. At the heart of the series are the doctors, nurses, medical students and other hospital staff who work in this demanding environment. Characters such as Mark Greene, John Carter, Kerry Weaver and Abby Lockhart wrestle with medical crises and the problems in their personal lives at the same time. The patients' own dramas form the second major strand of the story; every new patient confronts the team with a different challenge and a different human story. The critical issues in how the hospital runs are handled realistically, along with the chaotic world of the emergency room. Created by Michael Crichton and airing on NBC from 1994 for fifteen seasons and 331 episodes, this medical drama stars Anthony Edwards and Noah Wyle.
