The Lobster

A closer look at the story

In a dystopian near future, living alone is against the rules. Under the laws of The City, anyone without a partner is sent to The Hotel and given forty-five days to find a partner; those who fail are turned into an animal of their choosing and released into The Woods. Left by his wife, David checks into the hotel and finds himself racing the clock inside this absurd system. Out in the woods, meanwhile, live the Loners. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who wrote it with Efthimis Filippou, the 119-minute 2015 film stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Olivia Colman and Léa Seydoux in a darkly comic dystopian drama.
