A closer look at the story

After a sudden loss in the family, three generations of Deetzes go back to their old home in Winter River. Years later, Lydia has still not escaped Betelgeuse's shadow. Her life is thrown into chaos when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, finds a mysterious scale model of the town in the attic, because without realising it, Astrid has opened the gateway to the Afterlife. Trouble starts to stir in the worlds of both the living and the dead. It is now only a matter of time before someone says that name three times and the mischievous demon returns to spread his own brand of chaos. Tim Burton directs this 105-minute 2024 fantasy comedy, written by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, which brings together Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara and Jenna Ortega.
