A closer look at the story
When Loki, a prince of Asgard, schemes to conquer Earth with an army from beyond the stars, Nick Fury, who runs the international peacekeeping agency SHIELD, realises he cannot stop it alone. His answer is to bring a handful of extraordinary individuals under one roof: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and Black Widow. Each of them, however, has a different history, a different way of working and a sizeable ego, so before they can fight side by side they are bound to collide with one another. Written and directed by Joss Whedon, the 143-minute 2012 film casts Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor in a superhero action spectacle.
