The NeverEnding Story

A closer look at the story

Running from the bullies at school, young Bastian ducks into a bookshop, comes away with a strange and ornate book and settles down to read it in the school attic. The book carries him to Fantasia, a magical realm threatened with destruction by an all-consuming force called the Nothing. The task of saving the Childlike Empress and her land falls to Atreyu, a young warrior, who is joined on his quest by Falkor, a luck dragon. As Bastian turns the pages, the distance between him and the story he is reading starts to shrink. Adapted from Michael Ende's novel and directed by Wolfgang Petersen, the 1984 film stars Noah Hathaway, Barret Oliver and Tami Stronach in a fantasy adventure for the whole family.
