KINONOOK / EN

A closer look at the story

Rizwan Khan grew up with his mother in Mumbai, a Muslim man with Asperger's syndrome who experiences the world in his own particular way. After his mother's death he moves to the United States to join his younger brother, and in San Francisco he meets and marries Mandira, a Hindu single mother. The suspicion and hostility that spread after the September 11 attacks shake the family's life to its foundations. Taking Mandira's words to heart, Rizwan sets off on a long journey to reach the President and tell him that his name is Khan and that he is not a terrorist. Directed by Karan Johar from a screenplay by Shibani Bathija, the 2010 film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in an emotional drama about prejudice, faith and love.
