Edward Scissorhands

A closer look at the story

In a castle high on a hill, an inventor created Edward as his greatest work. The inventor's sudden death, however, left Edward unfinished: in place of hands he has long, razor-sharp scissor blades. Edward lives alone in the gloom of the castle for years until a kind-hearted woman selling cosmetics door to door finds him and takes him home to live with her family in a pastel-coloured suburb. So begins an extraordinary new chapter for Edward in the brightly coloured world of the suburbs. Directed by Tim Burton and written by Caroline Thompson, the 105-minute 1990 film stars Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder and Dianne Wiest in a bittersweet, fairy-tale-like fantasy drama.
