The Purge: Anarchy

A closer look at the story

One night a year, the government sanctions a twelve-hour period during which every crime, murder included, goes unpunished. On this most brutal of nights, the streets of Los Angeles become a battleground for survival. Leo, a sergeant who has lost his son, arms himself and heads out to take revenge on the man responsible. His plan changes, though, when his path crosses with innocent strangers: a young couple whose car has broken down and a mother and daughter who have barely escaped their home, all desperately needing his help to make it to morning. Intending to become a death-dealing avenger, Leo instead finds himself an unexpected protector. Written and directed by James DeMonaco, the 103-minute 2014 film stars Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo and Zach Gilford in a tense horror thriller.
