The Marvels
The Marvels: Three heroes whose powers get tangled
A closer look at the story
Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel, has won back her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken her revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But that has unforeseen consequences, and Carol is left carrying the weight of a universe thrown off balance. When her work takes her to an unusual wormhole connected to a Kree revolutionary, things get thoroughly complicated: Carol's powers become intertwined with those of two other people. One is Kamala Khan, alias Ms. Marvel, a devoted fan of hers from Jersey City; the other is Carol's estranged niece, Captain Monica Rambeau, now an astronaut with S.A.B.E.R. This most unexpected trio has to learn to act in harmony if they are to save the universe. Directed and co-written by Nia DaCosta, the 105-minute 2023 film brings together Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani and Samuel L. Jackson.
