Pacific Rim

A closer look at the story

Pacific Rim depicts a war that erupts when colossal creatures known as Kaiju begin to surface from deep beneath the Pacific. The conflict claims countless lives and steadily drains humanity's resources. To fight back, a special weapon is created: towering robots called Jaegers, each operated by two pilots whose minds are joined through a neural bridge. Over time, though, even these machines become almost powerless against the unrelenting Kaiju. With defeat close at hand, mankind's last resort lies with two improbable heroes, a former Jaeger pilot and a trainee with no experience, who must now serve as the world's final hope as the apocalypse draws near. This 2013 science-fiction spectacle, running 131 minutes, was directed by Guillermo del Toro, who co-wrote it with Travis Beacham. Charlie Hunnam plays the former pilot Raleigh Becket and Rinko Kikuchi plays the trainee Mako Mori, with Idris Elba, Max Martini and Clifton Collins Jr. among the supporting cast.
