Independence Day

Independence Day: Humanity's last hope against an alien invasion

KINONOOK / EN

A closer look at the story

One day strange phenomena break out across the globe: communication systems fail and the sky seems to catch fire. Soon enormous spaceships appear above the world's major cities, and it becomes clear their purpose is anything but peaceful: their mission is wiping out humanity during the Independence Day holiday weekend. David Levinson, a former scientist now working as a cable technician, is one of the first to realise an attack is imminent. The planet's last hope lies with a handful of very different people whom fate has thrown together. Directed by Roland Emmerich, who wrote it with Dean Devlin, the 145-minute 1996 film stars Will Smith, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum in a large-scale disaster film.
