A closer look at the story

Michael Oher is a homeless, traumatised young Black man who has spent much of his life on the streets. Struggling at school and ignored by almost everyone, this teenager sees his life change when he meets Leigh Anne Tuohy. Strong-willed and caring, Leigh Anne and her wealthy family open their home to Michael and offer him the kind of family he has never had. Taking up American football at school, Michael soon discovers his real talent, a path that will one day make him one of the most sought-after players in the National Football League. John Lee Hancock wrote and directed this account of Michael Oher's real life; the 129-minute 2009 film stars Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Quinton Aaron in an emotional sports drama.
