A closer look at the story

When Prue, Piper and Phoebe Halliwell reunite in San Francisco, they have no idea their lives are about to change course entirely. A book they find in the attic, the Book of Shadows, alters their destiny: when Phoebe reads its magic words aloud, the witch powers the three sisters inherited from their ancestors awaken. Each has her own unique abilities, which grow over time. Their true strength, however, emerges when they are together: this unbeatable bond, known as the Power of Three, lets them vanquish powerful demons they could never defeat alone. According to prophecy, their destiny is to protect innocent people from demons and warlocks. While carrying out this sacred duty, the sisters also try to lead ordinary lives in a modern city. Created by Constance M. Burge and airing on The WB from 1998 for eight seasons and 178 episodes, the series stars Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano.
