Carl's Date

A closer look at the story

Carl Fredricksen agrees, somewhat reluctantly, to go out with a female friend for the evening. Almost immediately, though, he runs into a big problem: he has no clue how modern dating is supposed to go. Carl grows more and more nervous. That is when his loyal, ever-helpful friend Dug steps in. Dug does everything he can to calm Carl down and boost his confidence, trying to teach him proven methods for making friends. There is just one catch: all of this advice is meant for dogs. Written and directed by Bob Peterson, this nine-minute 2023 animated short features Ed Asner as the voice of Carl and Bob Peterson as Dug.
