A closer look at the story
Taken follows Bryan Mills, a one-time government operative who is trying to rebuild his relationship with his teenage daughter, Kim. Against his better judgement, and only because his ex-wife insists, Bryan lets Kim travel to Paris on holiday with a friend. His deepest fear comes true almost immediately. Shortly after she lands, while she is on the phone with her father, Kim and her friend are snatched, and Bryan can only listen helplessly from the other end of the line. The kidnappers belong to a ruthless gang of traffickers who deal in young women, and he has very little time to find her. Drawing on years of training and a formidable set of skills, Bryan tracks down the gang and wages war on them single-handed to bring his daughter home. Pierre Morel directed this 94-minute action thriller from 2008, a French-American production written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. Liam Neeson plays Bryan Mills and Maggie Grace plays Kim, with Famke Janssen, Olivier Rabourdin and Katie Cassidy also in the cast.
