In Time: A young fugitive in a future where time is money

KINONOOK / EN

A closer look at the story

In Time is set in a not-so-distant future in which the gene for ageing has been turned off. To keep the population in check, time itself has replaced money, and people pay for both luxuries and basic needs with the hours left in their lives. The wealthy can stay young forever, while the poor live with death at their door every single day, begging, borrowing and sometimes even stealing time just to make it through to tomorrow. Will Salas, a young man with next to nothing, sees his life change in an instant when he suddenly comes into a fortune in time. Soon afterwards he is accused of a killing he did not commit and has to escape the Timekeepers, a crooked police force that guards the system. Having seen the system for what it really is, Will decides to fight back against it. This 2011 film, 109 minutes long, was written and directed by Andrew Niccol. Justin Timberlake plays Will Salas and Amanda Seyfried plays Sylvia Weis, with Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser and Olivia Wilde also in the cast.
