A closer look at the story

Dawn is set after a lethal plague has wiped out most of humanity. Caesar, the rebellious chimpanzee, has built a large community of apes as intelligent as himself and is fighting to keep his leadership over it. Meanwhile a band of humans who survived the outbreak is struggling to stay alive in San Francisco. Among this small group are a number of scientists. Sooner or later the two sides were bound to meet. Humans and apes alike want a say in the order that will replace the old world that has collapsed. Caesar, for his part, tries both to protect his own people and to hold his ground against those who would undermine his authority. Matt Reeves directed this 130-minute science-fiction drama from 2014, a joint UK-US effort with a screenplay credited to Rick Jaffa, Mark Bomback and Amanda Silver. Andy Serkis plays Caesar, with Jason Clarke, Toby Kebbell, Gary Oldman and Keri Russell also starring.
