A closer look at the story

Cars follows Lightning McQueen, a brash young race car who cares about nothing except winning. He is heading across the country to California, where the Piston Cup awaits along with two experienced rivals, The King and Chick Hicks. His trip takes an unplanned detour, however, and he ends up stuck in Radiator Springs, a drowsy little town on Route 66. To make matters worse, he accidentally tears up the town's road and has to put in hard work to fix it. During his stay he gets to know the quirky locals, forms real friendships and even falls in love. Little by little McQueen's priorities shift, and he comes to see that what matters is the road you travel rather than the chequered flag at the end of it; only then is he ready to be a true champion. John Lasseter directed this 117-minute animated film from 2006 and shares writing credit with Joe Ranft, Dan Fogelman, Kiel Murray and Phil Lorin. Owen Wilson voices Lightning McQueen, Paul Newman voices Doc Hudson, Bonnie Hunt is Sally, Larry the Cable Guy is Mater and Cheech Marin is Ramone.
