A closer look at the story
Living through an especially dangerous moment in prehistory, the Croods follow simple rules: gather food by day and hide in the cave at night. Grug and Ugga, their teenage daughter Eep, their son Thunk and the feisty Gran all feel safe inside this routine. But when an earthquake flattens the cave they have lived in for years, they are forced to set out under Grug's leadership in search of a new home. Grug has no trust in Guy, a young caveman they meet along the way whose ideas are far more advanced than theirs, yet it soon becomes clear that Guy is right that their world is about to be destroyed. Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco wrote and directed this 99-minute 2013 animation, featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds, in a colourful family adventure.
