A closer look at the story

The Transformers: The Movie is an animated adventure in which the Autobots come up against the biggest threat they have ever faced. A gigantic robot that devours entire planets as it moves through the universe sets its sights on the Autobots' most precious treasure, the Matrix of Leadership. Stopping this terrifying being becomes a desperate, all-or-nothing mission for the Autobots. The danger does not end there, either: at the very same time, their old enemies, the Decepticons, launch a full-scale assault on them. As the Autobots try to fend off this relentless onslaught while keeping the Matrix away from the planet eater, their courage and solidarity face the toughest test of all. Featuring characters such as Optimus Prime, Hot Rod, Megatron and Galvatron, the film offers a large-scale science-fiction epic of clashing robots. Directed by Nelson Shin from a script by Ron Friedman, this 85-minute film from 1986 features the voices of Judd Nelson, Peter Cullen, Leonard Nimoy and Orson Welles.
