Mean Girls: The laws of the high-school jungle

A closer look at the story

Raised in Africa by zoologist parents and taught at home without ever attending school, Cady Heron knows all about nature's rule that only the strongest survive. When she starts high school, though, she soon discovers that the law of the jungle takes a very different form there. The school's most popular and most ruthless clique, the Plastics, takes her in, and Cady suddenly finds herself at the centre of the in-crowd. But when she develops feelings for Aaron Samuels, who used to date the group's leader, Regina George, the school corridors turn into a real battlefield. Directed by Mark Waters and written by Tina Fey, the 97-minute 2004 film stars Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried in a sharp-tongued teen comedy.
