The Invite

A closer look at the story

Things between Joe and Angela have been fragile for a while. One evening, they invite their mysterious upstairs neighbours, Piña and Hawk, over for dinner. At first everything goes along like a polite, ordinary dinner party: conversation, glasses of wine and courteous smiles. But the guests' unusual revelations about their own relationship, and the unexpected "invitation" they eventually put on the table, change the direction of the night completely. As the cracks in the hosts' marriage deepen, the tension between the characters escalates. By the end of the evening, Joe and Angela are left with a single question: have they rekindled the spark between them, or struck the match that will burn everything to the ground? Directed by Olivia Wilde and written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, this 107-minute 2026 comedy-drama stars Olivia Wilde, Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton.
